The practical test will start with an eyesight test which, if you fail, means your test cannot continue.  You will also be asked to describe and show the examiner how you would carry out various safety checks on the car.  This is known as "Show Me Tell Me".

The actual driving test will last about 40 minutes during which time you must be able to demonstrate that you can drive consistently well and safely without prompting or guidance.

Only 42% of people taking their driving test actually pass.  I want you to pass as quickly as possible but will not put you forward for your test until you have reached the required standard.  This saves you both time and money in the long run.
